For anyone who struggles to keep up with the times, here’s a bit of important information:
It is 2011.
For those of you who have taken note of this precious little fact but who haven’t really given it a second thought, allow me to make things a little more exciting: this New Year marks the start of a new decade. Right, now that we’re all up to speed, allow me to contradict myself in saying I may be noted as one of the people who struggles to keep up with the times, as I MISSED NEW YEARS. Yeah. I spent all of the 31st waiting for 00:00 and by the time New Years had come and gone I’d missed the boat. From what I’ve gathered – I wasn’t the only one. Firstly, there were five other people with me who did the same thing and then numerous other friends who informed me – an the rest of the world – via facebook status updates that they too had just missed the start of 2011.
It just got me thinking: what are we waiting for? We sit around, counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the next big event, it happens and then we move on. Sometimes you’re so busy waiting for something to happen that when it actually arrives, you miss it. Or you spend so much time waiting around and stressing over the minor details, that you just let huge opportunities pass you by. What about enjoying every second for what it’s worth?
As someone who just finished my final year of school, I couldn’t wait for it to end. After that, I couldn’t wait for results. Now, I can’t wait for university. Anyone else see my problem? It’s never enough to just sit down and enjoy whatever it is that’s happening at that moment. I should have enjoyed every minute of high school, rather than wishing it away; I should have enjoyed the excitement and anticipation of getting results instead of torturing myself by counting down the days, I should be enjoying my holidays now instead of counting down the days until registration at University. Really, what’s the rush? Of course, I’m speaking for myself here, but perhaps you agree. Perhaps it’s time to actually enjoy life? In stressing about the arrival of big events, I missed out on my high school friends’ lives. I missed out on a stress-free Christmas. I’m missing out on the holidays I’ll be wishing for not too long from now. If I had have enjoyed these things, I wouldn’t regret missing out on them because I’d have experienced them to the full.
“What about enjoying every
second for what it’s worth?”
Maybe I should start with enjoying these holidays a little more? Instead of being eager to get to Uni? I mean, eagerness is wonderful, but it’s also a little limiting as you miss out on what’s going on around you – you just get tunnel vision and focus on one part of the painting rather than the whole picture.
Don’t limit yourself with time. It’s the only sure thing on earth – the only thing that never changes – why are you so worried that you’re going miss it? It’s always there. Besides, why worry about the few couple of hours you have on earth when you have eternity waiting for you? Nothing, on Earth, is really worth waiting for.
Definatly so true! i do exacly that! focus on all the big events and never see all the little things! Time 4 a change me thinks! Its the same with dreaming...You can spend your life dreaming away and not doing anything about what you want, and he next thing you know a year has passed and you did nothing because you only dreamed about doing things. Good blog! Very thought provoking. x
